On the 6th National Bloggers Day, last Sunday, Omar Niode Foundation organized bloggers super brunch at The Dharmawangsa, gathering inspirational bloggers to get to know each other, share knowledge, and discuss about future culinary ideas for social purposes.

The movers and shakers

The bloggers, mostly movers and shakers of blogger or food communities, included Ade Putri Paramadita, missHOTRODqueen; Amril Taufik Gobel, Catatan Dari Hati; Jessica Darmawan, Destination Indonesia; Leonardo Slatter, Food Steps Journal ; Mira Sahid, Inspirasi Mama; Rian Farisa, The Gastronomy Aficionado; Santhi Serad, SanthiSerad; Umi Fadilah, Umi Fadilah W. Syam; Verdi Danutirto, The Hungry Doctor; and Yenny Widjaja, Things that Make Me Happy

Being the least inspirational of the bunch, and definitely the less experienced, I was quick in accepting the invite! Of course, having regrettably missed the famous Jakarta Marathon just a few hours prior due to a failure to wake up disorder, I had to compensate, and what better way to do it than with a Super Brunch Food Marathon!

Food master shots

As I arrived, people were scattered around, professional camera in hand, creating their food master shots. Carrying the only source of a camera I had, my two-year-old phone, I made the rather wise choice of politely asking the fellow bloggers if I could steal their photos as I had regrettably left my non-existent pro-photo kit at home. Instead, I used the time to scout the almost never-ending collection of food after food.

We were all sat down on a long table in a rather intimate setting. What a wonderful group! With a short introduction by Omar Niode Foundation’s confident secretary regarding the background and aims of the Foundation and its blog, followed by a small introduction by each of the bloggers, it was already starting to feel like a happy bloggers family.

The chef's tips

Not long after, the wonderful Chef Vindex Valentino Tengker, judge of Top Chef Indonesia, Head Chef of The Dharmawangsa, and such a knowledgeable and inspirational figure in the culinary industry, greeted us.

Bearing in mind that the Super Brunch is so super that everyone is handed a map of the premises to locate all the food stations (40 to be precise) and trying my best not to be distracted by the gorgeous smell of the melting cheese next door, I listened up.

What to look out for says the Chef are the unusual items, alias the items which are harder to source: oysters from all over the world, calvicius Italian caviar, cote de boeuf, wildboar prosciutto, lobster Thermidor, and a few others. I took note, as these are also the food items that I could never possibly afford on a regular basis, or probably ever, so this was my chance to cheerfully indulge.

The Super Brunch at The Dharmawangsa happens just 3 times a year, usually in April for Easter, October after the Eid and December for Christmas. Starting at 11.30 am and ending at 3.00 pm, giving you almost four hours to spoil yourself with heavenly delicacies, it really is a Super Brunch not to miss.

Ideas to work on

Sharing this rare experience with a group of passionate bloggers chattering about everything from noodles to intestines to ideas on future events was truly a wonderful experience. We hope to be able to build on from this meeting, raising awareness of Omar Niode Foundation and its humble aims and continue to work together to share ideas and to essentially enhance food education and knowledge in Indonesia.
